Leopard Gecko as a Pet

Leopard geckos remain one of the more popular reptiles and this specie is a great choice for a novice reptile owner to start. Leopard geckos have easier caging demands and are smaller than other popular reptiles.

They're a great animal in general. They possess all the qualities of a great pet. Like with ball pythons and bearded dragons, morphs in a stunning variety of colors and patterns, and are making their way into pet stores.

 

Some of the hot morphs from a few years among breeders are coming down in price and you'll start to see them in pet shops. Examples include the tangerine gecko, named for its tangerine or orange hues, and the Mack snow gecko, which is considerably faded from its normal coloration. And those "super snows" are totally white and black.

 

The enigma, what breeders refer as a "dominant morph," is another up-and-comer. It's described as a "morph enhancer," as it tends to increase color intensity and patterns.

Also look for the unique RAPTOR (Ruby-eye, Albino, Orange, Patternless, Tremper) morph. These geckos can bear an entirely solid red eye, or have spots of normal eye color.

All these reptiles typically start at about $100 and go up from there.
